So, am I pleased with how the project turned out? Absolutely! Did it take longer than expected from beginning to end? Without a doubt, about 8 years longer! That's to be expected with a project this ambitious - life takes priority and the project takes a back seat. Did it cost more than expected? Okay, that one's rhetorical; any Jeep owner knows that's a resounding "yes." All told, with original purchase price, parts, engine machining, and paint I have a bit more than $30k in the Jeep, laid out in bits and pieces over 15 years. My blood, sweat, and countless hours were given willingly.
But it's not about the money. The satisfaction of knowing that I touched every bolt, nut, gear, piston, and bushing in the vehicle during the build process can't be bought. The gratification of seeing what was once nothing more than an idea morph into an actual plan and finally culminate in the finished product you see here is priceless. I know I have more invested than I'll ever get out of it, but that was never the point. The true value comes from knowing that I've resurrected a piece of automotive history, customized it to fit my intended use, and will be able to pass it down to my kids and grandkids after years of enjoying it myself.
